Safety Planning

Any time you feel threatened, call 9-1-1.

Jessie’s House Crisis Line: 1-866-939-2850

If you are in an abusive relationship, safety planning can be essential in reducing the amount of risk that you and your children face. By having a safety plan in place, you will know what to do in case of an emergency and will be more likely to make a successful escape.

There is no right or wrong way to make a safety plan; it should above all be something that will work for you. Review it often and make changes as you need to; if possible, review it with a social worker, family violence worker, or police officer.

Safety plans are used by people who:

  • Want to leave an abusive situation, but need help doing so safely
  • Are not sure about leaving but want to have an option in case the domestic abuse escalates
  • Have already left an abusive situation and are still worried about the threat of family violence

Our Crisis Line staff can provide support and safety planning 24/7: 1-866-939-2850.

Our Family Violence Outreach Worker can also conduct a danger assessment, help you create a personalized safety plan and connect you to community supports. Call 587-879-6125, weekdays from 8:30 to 4:00 pm.
