Who We Are
The Inspire Program, created by the Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation, supports students in Grade 8 and 9 as they:
Build confidence and emotional resilience
Learn practical tools for leadership and self-advocacy
Develop stronger communication and relationship skills
Connect with supportive adults and peers
Strengthen their sense of community and belonging
Grow into positive role models in and out of school
The program includes hands-on activities, small group discussions, and reflection. Sessions are led by trained facilitators and centre around topics like empathy, boundaries, and healthy decision-making.
F.A.Q.
What is the Inspire Program, and who runs it?
Inspire is a school-based, trauma-informed initiative by JMMF in partnership with Sturgeon Public Schools, facilitated by trained professionals.
Who is eligible, and how are students selected?
The program is open to students in Grades 8 and 9. In the past, we have had gender-specific cohorts. This year, we are offering a mixed-gender class. Students are typically referred by school staff, counsellors, or parents and may self-nominate.
What topics are covered and how does it help?
Sessions cover themes such as leadership, empathy, boundaries, healthy relationships, bullying prevention, body image, wellness, and self-advocacy. Students learn through group discussion, hands-on activities, and peer connection.
How long does the program run?
The Inspire Program is a yearlong commitment. Scheduling may vary by school and will be confirmed at the start of the school year.
Is there cost or commitment for families?
There is no cost to families. We ask for consistent participation, as each lesson builds on the last. Students benefit most through regular attendance and family engagement.
How does the school ensure privacy and safety?
No personal information is shared without consent. Sessions follow trauma-informed practices and are led by qualified facilitators. Groups are small and confidential.
As a non-profit, we report outcomes and evaluation data to funders, the public, and our board.
What outcomes can parents expect?
Students generally show improved confidence, leadership, emotional resilience, stronger communication, and healthier relationship choices. Community impact has been shown through media coverage and award nominations.
